i love spending time with others, but my truest thoughts and inspiration come from periods of self reflection in my own company. Not just ‘time alone’, but being constructively alone. Where I am consciously taking the time to bask in my true feelings, path and hobbies, silenced from outside noise. when drawing hands, I see them as thousands of translucent layers of reds, blues, pinks, oranges, greens and yellows, all on top of one another. society differentiates us by our skin colour, but instead every single one of us has a combination of the same handful of colours, of varying amounts, all reflecting light differently. the hands, with their variety of texture and many points of movement, show this particularly well. variety is the spice of life ❤️

infinite thoughts 💭💭💭

Call me basic but Yayoi’s pumpkins have always been up there in my fav pieces of artwork ever. I read all about the obsessive repetition of the dots and how they represent the infinity of life and the universe. I read about how, as an artist, creating using repetitive movements such as dots gives a sense of meditation, security and comfort - unlocking a fragment of the DNA of the universe. I used to draw patterns a lot as a kid and I remember it being so grounding for my anxious lil mind.

As someone who is obsessed with art as a means for self healing, I really wanted to give the pumpkins a go myself, in my own little way. Slightly worried it would be tiresome doing all the dots, I was wrong. I loved it and found it could do it for hours and hours without a concern in the world if I let myself.

Yayoi, with her own mental illnesses, must have discovered this exact feeling herself on her own artistic journey, which changed her life forever.

Yayoi will always have a place in my little heart ❤️
